Since I last posted we have done this walk twice more. Once with our OH's at the weekend and yesterday 'forum girls only'. Our brave men chaperoned us through the cow fields at the weekend and more or less told us we were wimps to be so afraid. Of course the cows were fairly well behaved so they didn't get the full cow experience! Yesterday we three girls took up our walking boots again and headed towards the first cow field. We had a short discussion about whether we were brave enough to go it alone and would you believe, the scared one, (who shall be nameless but I shall call her Captain Mainwaring) was the first one up and over the stile with a steely expression on her face. We tried to remember all the advise we had been given on the forum and walked slowly and purposefully around the field trying not to attract attention. Got to the next stile, climbed over and, disaster .... into another field of cows. Doomed, we're all doomed! This time they were with their babies so we were scared to go into the field. We stood at the stile in between two fields of cows as the curious calves got closer and closer and tried to sniff us (or they might have been trying to eat us, we weren't sure). Captain Mainwaring suddenly said, 'Follow me girls, I'm going over the top' (or something along those lines), and struck out in the direction of the next stile. We followed our leader, our troup looking vaguely like the bedraggled cast offs from Dad's Army, and made it to the next stile without being chased. We did it. Hurrah. Thanks for all your advice. What brave little soldiers we were! Until next time.....

bluebella, you would be surprised and proud at how we have overcome our fear of cows. We took all the advice we had been given on the forum and decided that the more fearful we were, the more the cows could sense it, so we summoned up our courage and now we just walk on through the field without any problems. It's amazing really, because we were really, really scared but now we don't even think of it. Our last walk with just girls was Friday and we went through a really big field full of cows and they didn't bother us at all. Now if I could apply this method to my fear of flying that would be really something! |

Well that's good news then MT. I still don't think I could manage it, they would sense what a scaredy cat I am at once and all make a bee line for me! When people say about going on a safari, well that would be my worst nightmare! Anyway, well done you and your "gang" for showing those cows who's boss! Every time I see a field of cows I think of you! Bluebella |
