Re: Are there any Ladies on here who....

Well Jessie, I LOVED the Salvation Army! The Citadel was at the end of my road and my sister and , although not Salvationists were very much involved with them I belonged to the Brownie pack and Sunday School they ran. I loved the Timbrells...do they still have them?...and aspired to be one myself!

I hold them in huge affection in my heart for all they did for me as I was growing up. Wonderful people.

Jessie,

Oh isnt that great that two people have met on here and will be in touch with each other, that is lovely to see.

I think the Salvation Army are really good people, who do so much good work within the community, I really admire them.

I will always remember my mother being a great supporter,
her local Salvation Army, and she used to help them when they organized jumble sales etc.

Plasmo x

Re: Are there any Ladies on here who....

Can I pass on my thanks to The Salvation Army through you fellow members for all that your organisation did for my family through some very difficult times. My Mum is 80 this year, all her siblings have gone and from a very early age I (and my daughters) have been told of the work that The Army did during some dark years in Lancashire in the 30's. My family have always been RC but my Mum to this day (although with failing health)will cross the road to give to them and always to thank them on behalf of her family. Without The Salvation Army they could not have survived.

Welcome saffronmill,
We're not members but huge fans. I used to live next door to the local Majors when I was a kid. We always support them, they do a fabulous job!

Re: Are there any Ladies on here who....

I worked for the Salvation Army at Booth House in Whitechapel London when i was about 30 that is 35 years ago. I used to go in at 9pm to make the teas and cocoa before they went to bed, and do the washing up. My two friends worked their also and used to do the cleaning in the private paying Mens part. Next door was the soup kitchen and people could sleep their if they had no rooms for the night. They were such lovely people to me and if there is anyone i would donate to it would be them they do so much good work at home and abroad. My Father was in the Army hospital at the end of the War and he told me they were such comfort to the soldiers where as other priest walked by their beds if you was not of their faith so he truly supported the Salvation Army as they had time for you no matter what faith you were.
