How do you think others see you ?

Either on the forum or when you first meet people face to face?

Im having to think about this one too,ok here goes...

I would people see me as Confident,Happy,Lively,Chatty,Interested in others,Attractive lady who wears bright colours! LOL

On the Forum i may well come accross as inqusitive,lively but deep at times and someone who doesn't have a life as i spend far tooooooo much time on here!! LOL

Hi Summer - Im really not sure and its something I worry about. I think Im quite shy really but put on an out going persona. When Im with people I know well I can be funny and make them laugh - but i think it takes people time to see that side of me. Im quite a happy person really but I dont think this always shows on my face as i sometimes get the impression that people are nervous of me - I dont know why.

One lady very kindly said she saw me as suited and booted in a business sense. Still laughing as I sit in my scruffy jeans and walking boots. Guess most see me as straightforward, but hopefully not rude. From what people say, i think they have me completely wrong on every other count though. I'm not some super businesswoman, nor super - confident, nor tough, nor interesting. I'm about as average as it's possible to be.

Think some people at work see me as a bit aloof, very confident and smartly dressed but it's really a front because I'm fairly shy and insecure underneath. Once I feel comfortable with people I'm more outgoing and can be too chatty. I'm generally a happy, positive person but OH says it doesn't always show on my face (I usually reply that I'd look very stupid if I went round with a constant grin!).

I really don`t care and certainly don`t lose any sleep over it.
I am me and I don`t pretend to be anyone else.If people don`t like me thats up to them, I don`t like everyone I meet.
I don`t think you should go through life worrying what other people think, just get on and enjoy life and take all the opportunities that come your way.

Bel...you have just solved a dilema for me.I am going to a funeral and am pondering what to wear as the family have requested no black.I have a green coat but don't want to end up looking like a leprachaun.After reading your post I realise not one person will be looking at me and what I am wearing, we will be celebrating the life of a lovely friend.x

Bel - that is such good advice: used to worry when I was younger, but now life is too short. Am pretty sure I come across as stroppy, militant and (ermmm) spikey was it!

What Suzie said is how I think we would all love to be, just wish it was that easy. Me I fluctuate between caring and not caring. Most of my life I have had an overiding need to be liked and yet have always been an outsider (put both of these things down to being adopted -very happily, but it brings it's own problems). As I got older I realised I was an outsider for good reasons because I actually had nothing in common with those I had been trying to impress. I'm fairly eccentric and speak my mind. It's hard going on to descrieb myslef as it sounds arrogant and I don't mean it to, so I'm just repeating what a friend said recently when I asked the same question and asked her to be straight with me. Her opinion was that as I was tall, slim, didn't look my age and dressed well I would annoy some women (school mainly). When she first came to my house she said she was intimidated by teh books on teh shelves and worried how I woudl see her as she had only 1 O'level. Then reminded herself that I had never revealed this about myself, so it was just her opinion. My OH saw an aloof woman when he first saw me in a staff meeting. This comes from being 6ft 1" so pretty impossible to hide and blend in even when you're feeling a bit shy - so teh face probably goes into aloof mood with no choice. We all have barriers of some sort.

Think my general point is that however much I care I can't change me or the bits about my life that others take to make up their opinions of me. I just have to accept it and hope that those I call my friends have a good opinion of me. On the whole I know they do and sometimes I think they see a better person than I do. However, don't know how I come across on here, couldn't guess at that one.

I agree Bobo. It's difficult not to care what people think of you. We all seek approval. I also care and know that I don't always give a great first impression. I am someone that people tend to warm to when they get to know me - and that takes time. However, I like this quote from Dr Suess

I read a great quote the other day on a blog called mousenotebook. It said along teh lines of "make sure that you are in everything you do and make so that everything is a true reflection of who you are." Completely wrong, but that's teh gist of it. I design and make for a living now so took that as my line for this year. No longer going to make things that fit others taste, but stay true to my own because I know I have a great sense of design. So there. Now bowing with my tongue out. This is a good look.

hi summer cant say i have given it any thought,when i was younger i used to worry how people saw me,but now i really dont care sounds awful i know, but its how i feel about myself thats important to me now,i try to be a good person,and if i can help someone i gladly will,i could not sleep if i done wrong by anyone,and if i ever, unintentionally hurt, or upset anybody, i feel really bad, and will aways quickly say sorry. I dont suffer fools easily though, dislike people who think the world owes them a living,find to hard to understand people who constantly moan,i find the people who have the right to moan never do and simple make the most of life inspite of their difficulties,those people i admire. Cant spend much time with people that are so selfish and materialistic, racist,vulgar,uncaring.i could go on but i wont.

sorry think i;v gone on a bit there,but back to your question no i dont worry about it.

I think it's a good thing to care to some degree about what other people think. I don't mean that you should subsume your personality to fit, rather that sometimes it's part of society that we present a way of being in order to make it easier to interact with various situations and people whose thoughts, attitudes, customs are different to ours. It's when you spend your time with friends and family denying your true self that huge problems occur.

Totally agree with Bel and Suzie, I don't much worry how others see me or percieve me, not everyone will like me, and being a realist I accept that. I don't like everyone I meet in life either. I just hope to come across as a reasonably, polite, decent, human being.

Thats a very good sentence Bel "too much introspection on self is very negative".

If I say I don't care what people think I'd be lying but at my age, I've earned the right to be true to myself. I don't go out of my way to upset anyone and I won't be rude or obnoxious but people make their own judgements, good or bad. In my experience, it's my intelligence (not my looks) that unsettles people most but I won't apologise for having a brain. However, it does explain why I can't post a thread that's less than a zillion words long - sorry!!!

Hi summs!

I think people often used to see me as standoffish and snooty when I was younger, I hope it happens less often now.

I think it is because I am quiet and reticent that I can come across as being aloof but as I've got older I've learnt to cover it up better.

I'm actually warm hearted and friendly, just a bit shy.

I'm just like Cuppy - I think I come across as aloof in real life but it's not that I'm aloof at all, I just have a hard time making friends as I have pretty low self-esteem.

Despite that, I'm quick-witted and articulate and that may be off-putting to some so I try to keep my head down and it comes across as standoffish.

DH just calls me quirky and when we first met he said I was all p*ss and vinegar. I told him to shape up or ship out. Nice!

Blimey, first my photo now my innermost thoughts, you lot know how to get under someone's skin don't you?

I value the opinions of my family and close friends, but apart from that I don't really mind too much what other think of me. I know there are people at work who do not particularly like me, but as I don't value their views or opinions I don't really care.

I think you can spend too much time worrying about other people's opinions. I would much rather just get on with my life. I am not one for navel gazing, I am very much a 'shut the door and move on' type of person. I try very hard to look out and not in and look up not down.

It made me sad reading how many people posted that they have low self esteem. I just wondered why?

I have been told that I come across in my posts as completely different to how I am in person! Hmmm, I may have to work on that.

I know you like my oneliners Sums but I hope that I don't come across as much more terse than I actually am. I'm actually a pretty cr@ppy typist - slow and inaccurate so it takes me ages to post and usually someone is shouting at me to get off the computer, so I tend to keep things short.

I tend to think that I might seem a bit plain vanilla but when you get to know me I have been described as having a bit of a naughty twinkle in my eye and I like a laugh!
