CAT AND DOG LOVERS OR NOT???

I notice that many ladies on this Forum love their pets and get a lot of satisfaction and love from them.....the pictures posted are often very sweet. However ,I could never live with a pet! Maybe I didnt grow up with them although my Mum loves dogs. My Dad would never have a dog hence no pets in my life. My OH loves dogs too but i really really couldnt imagine having a cat a dog a goldfish, hampster rabbit or anything living in my home. Am I the only one??
love all my children and grand children to bits and may be I have never needed the love of a pet.
Please dont shoot me down in flames!

I grew up with them dogs,cats ect.All my brothers & sisters have have them I'm the only one in the family who doesn't

We always had both when I was growing up. This is the first time I have been without cats since my my last two died. Because I go away a lot I won't have any at the moment but I miss having them so much and love visiting friends who have them. I adore cats. When I am a little old lady sitting knitting in my rocking chair perhaps then I will have a couple again. Meanwhile I am enjoying my gallivanting too much.

Definitely a Dog lover - have had a dog or dogs for over 30 years, ever since I have had my own home - and I cannot imagine a life without a beloved pet. To me, a house is not a home without one. Dogs rule !

I'm a cat lover, having had three of them over the years.
The latest we've had three months. He's a rescue cat from the Blue Cross charity and is called Noodles!

I am a cat and dog lover - have a mad black labrador called Harry and 4 cats called Tigi, Oscar, Sheeba and Arthur. I love them all...xxx

Sometimes it is luverly gadding about, for an hour or so, without my little dog in tow..... But within the shortest period of time, it feels like I am missing something...... yeah, HIM!
And sometimes it would be so nice to be able to sit down with a mug of tea, or coffee, and something to eat, without someone or several coming to check whether they can sit on my lap, and share whatever I am having at that mo.... Like now, the inevitable purring teacosy is planted firmly on my lap, with his face firmly tucked up against me.
They are like messy and oftener than not naughty kids, but I couldn't imagine a life without them!!

I love cats but dogs and I have a mutual dislike thing going on.I was bitten twice as a child so I generally give them a wide berth.They smell too!!And as for the other business...eeugh.Pooper scoopers.I'    m out of here.

You're not odd Splash - Im not overkeen on the four legged type. Brother had a labrador when we were little many years ago, but nothing since. They dont bother me, just never had the urge to have a pet (2 sons, 1 ex OH and current OH were enough for me!!).

Good Morning Splash and Everyone,
I havent always had animals, when I was young, due to the fact we travelled so much we were encouraged not to have any pets at all. Since I have been married we have still been in the same position, travelling around the world a lot.
Since we stopped gallavanting, we have had two beloved cats, who both died in the same year, one got run over, and the other died of kidney decease. I miss them terribly.
I now have a six year old Cavalier, he is spoilt rotten, but couldnt imagine our life without him, he gives us so muc back in return. He rules the roost, is mischievous, gets his own way most of the time, and he makes us happy.

Just checked the Rules For Life and as far as I can see Splash, you don't have to have a pet. As you know, I have 5 dogs, 2 Chinchillas and 2 Goldfish. I'd hate to be without the dogs, in fact I don't even want to imagine it (even with the scoopy thing!!!!). They keep me fit and get me out of the house, I've met people because of them and they just give unstinting love and demand little in return. The chinchillas and the fish were all rescue cases - I just have 'Soft-touch' written on my forehead.

Afternoon Slash, think I like that new name!LOL
I have a spaniel as you may have seen on other posts, and she is our second spaniel. I love her to bits and love having a dog around, but Mr Snowy and I intend to go without for a while when she is gone, as they are such a tie, and we really want to go travelling for several months to Oz and NZ. Whether I could live without one altogether forever I'm not sure.

I inherited my cat from my neighbours when they moved. I love her to bits but at the same time I wish I didn't have her. I wouldn't be without her now but we've had our wings clipped and don't travel about nearly as much as we did before we got her.
She is such a sweety though and has us both wrapped around her little paw..

I'm a big dog lover - no surprises there!
Only time in married life I didn't have one was when we were in Houston. With 3 kids under age of 5, I didn't have enough time to give a dog the exercise it needs. Hated that time, OH travelled a lot with work and just didn't feel safe without a dog in the house at all.
Never actually had a pet dog that would guard me, unless licking someone to death counts!
However, I do look forward to holidays etc knowing I don't have to put my wellies on every day....hoover up dog hairs every day.....poop bags out.....!

I absolutely love my animals, got two cats and a beautiful chocolate labrador. They bring me so much pleasure, I walk for at least an hour and a half a day with Ruby. Can't imagine my life without animals AND they take less cleaning up after than my two kids.

You are not the only one, I don`t have a dog or cat and definitely don`t ever want one. I can`t stand the smell of dog or cat food, or having fur near me when I am eating.As for poop I almost throw up if I see any.
Animals are not meant to live in a house otherwise they wouldn`t have fur.

This is quite interesting isnt it ? so many of you love your pets and you almost persuade me that I am missing out .....but i just couldnt live with them in the house....like Susie I just couldnt do it!
As Summer says we are all different ....now children? well I could have as many of those as you like!!

I'm with you splash/slash. Not a pet lover I'm afraid. We had various animals when the kids were small, including cats, but I'm blissfully animal-free now. I sometimes wonder if I'd want a dog if I was ever on my own, but I like my freedom too much - oh and I don't like dog poo!

as you all will know i have 4 dogsHoney, Rani, Toto, and Charlie but at present i am working with many more; Forest a german shephard who was a stray with ears full of maggets, Buster who had a rotten leg removed, Pipkin who was a bag of bones with 6 puppies, Billy another german shephard who was surrendered by his owner as he barked to much, [very afraid of been shut in] Amy brought in by tourist. Betty left to wonder the beach as owner had fallen on hard times[so afraid 4 weeks before i could touch here]and many more.
Today we had 5 puppies and 6 adults surrendered sadly some were put to sleep as they were very agressive, i spent the afternoon cutting rasta hair off a Griffon
We have cats but i leave them to someone else also but i cannot even go there as i have enough with helping the dogs

i love all animals - have a dog and a cat and not only have they got me through a very difficult time after splitting up with the ex 2 years ago, one way or another, i get a huge amount of pleasure from them not having had children .... if i had a choice they wouldn't moult and would use the toilet like we do, but hey .......

We are totally besotted cat owners they are simply beautiful, BUT I do wish their hair would stay on their bodies! My OH would like a dog when he retires but I'm really not keen I was bitten when I was 6 and I've never trusted a single dog since then. Anyway all this is immaterial as my DIL to be is totally allergic to the cats, she can't come in our house. If grandchildren come along I'll have a terrible dilemma, at the moment I'm burying my head in the sand can't contemplate what we'll do.

i had a friend sunbeam who said he was allergic to cats - but not a weepy eye, sneeze, nothing when he came into the house ....... so you never know ... fingers crossed.

My son is allergic to cats, his eyes swell up and stream, his airways swell like with asthma and he can`t breathe within minutes.
I did have a pet cow and pig when I was young but they lived outside obviously.

It's slightly more serious girlie sounds like Suzies S. My son has actually been in the ambulance with her when her throat has closed and she can't breathe, she even got a reaction a few weeks ago from a friends beard because his cat had rubbed his chin.

I love cats and would love to own a Ragdoll. My husband doesn't care for cats, but said I could get one, but our house is rather small to keep a litter box. I told him if I got a cat I would have to train it to use the toilet. He said there was no way he was going to be waiting outside the bathroom door while the cat was using the toilet. (haha) Anyway, maybe someday I'll get my Ragdoll.

I love all animals and over the years when the children were small we had cats, rabbits and hamsters! Now we just have one persian cat. She is our third persian and a real sweetie. She is gentle and calm, yet playful too and I can't imagine not having her! She is part of the family and makes our house a home.
I love dogs too but it wouldn't be fair to have one as it would be left on its own for too long each day. Maybe one day when we retire we will have a dog too but for now a cat probably suits our lifestyle better as they are more independent.

Hello Pawprint,when OH and i first started living together we had both a Blue persion and Seal point Persion,they really were our first babies awwww.WE now have a Moggie but even she has longish Fur and not forgetting my "little" man who is a Black Briard (French sheepdog)awwww

Your pets sound lovely! Our cat is a blue cream persian and like the persians you used to have we think of her as our baby too! We have had 3 persians over the years - a pewter persian followed by a black persian cross and now our blue cream one - and they have all had very different personalities but with the same sweet temperaments.
Funnily enough I had never been a cat person previously. Not having grown up with cats I always thought they were too independent and I had originally wanted a dog, but this wasn't possible due to working hours. However, one of my work colleagues at the time had a couple of persians and the way she described their gentle natures and the fact that they are very people orientated and love to be with you, made me think I would like a cat after all.
Although we have tended to have persians I love moggies too and would still like a dog one day.

This is our first cat (see below) although I did grow up with them and have missed having cats ever since. I like to say that I had a cat shaped space on my lap as I always tended to sit with a cushion on it! (also hides the gut)
She is a blue burmese and is full of naughtiness and character, always wanting to know what I am doing.
I felt guilty that we did not give the children a pet before and I felt that we had to do it now really or they would all have left.
I'm quite scared of dogs and had a nasty experience when I was cornered by a snarling one as a child in a small, narrow lane on the way to school. The woman in charge of it told me that it was my fault, as it knew I was scared of it. I don't quite get that one!

Chatelaine, not sure what make of kitten "Snowy" was but he was absolutely beautiful, very noisy, talked all the time and was a back runner. We all had scratches up our legs and backs. I saw him a couple of weeks ago he is huge now.
Chilla, the dog is mine but the kitten is one of many I've fostered through work, got some fab pictures so will try and put a couple more on later now I've managed to do it, hopefully smaller than the last one.
Ruby is brilliant with the kittens, my own two cats are usually not too happy though.
