Learning languages

Hi or should I say buenos dias..... taken up learning Spanish and at the young age of 47 I cannot keep the verb endings in mind - anyone got any useful suggestions? Exam coming up in a few days time and panic setting in..... my excellent memory of the past is letting me down. Buenos noches mis amigos.

Re: Learning languages

I can speak Spanish, but unfortunately can't think of any tricks to help you on the verb endings.

Buena suerte. I'm sure you will be fine.

Buenas noches Jalila. I'm afraid there is no easy way to learn verb endings. You just have to learn them by rote.
But learning the words of a song in Spanish might help.
Mucha suerte!

Re: Learning languages

Have you tried the Michel Thomas Spanish course on CD? I've used the Italian version and thought it was fantastic. You should be able to borrow it from a library if you don't want to buy it.He's fab..took me to another level with speaking which I was really anxious about.Good luck with the exam.

Ciao Aprile,( and everyone else!)
Va bene?Grazie per il tuo messaggio.E una lingua bella,e vero? How long have you been learning italian? Do you go to a class? I have learnt with a friend who lived in Italy for 20 odd years so we read novels etc,a bit unorthodox but it works.I tried the A level but it was mainly reading political articles and environmental stuff..whatever happened to beautiful literature???
Would love to chat to anyone who is learning Italian.Perhaps we can help each other.
A presto.

Re: Learning languages

Buenas dias jalila, I started learning spanish in September at the age of 65! My son has moved to Seville to be with his girl friend so I need to be able to speak to her.
can't help with the verb endings Tomas (tutor) epects us to remember them - I try!

I'm not doing GCSE just conversation, hope to eventually though. We're using the BBC book Pasos.

feliz Ano Nuevo

saludos

Re: Learning languages

Hi Jalila
I'm also learning Spanish & struggling with verbs. You would think that at the age of 46 I would sit & do my homework, but I don't, so it's my own fault. A good book to try is Spanish Verb Tenses by Dorothy Devney Richmond. It's very repetitive & when I spend time looking at it, it does actually help.

Ciao Annamezzo

I really panicked after reading your post!

I learnt (some) Italian a few years ago and haven't looked at it for a long time but want to take it up again so have just bought a cassette player off Ebay so I can rerun all my tapes and hopefully get up to speed again. But I can't write it or hold a conversation about real life!!!! But I would love to. I do have some books of short stories which I used to struggle through so will try them again.
