I do love my house and town - been in house for 5 years and town for 15 - but would like a change at sometime. Now that my son has just left home to do his PhD and my daughter will be off soon, I would like to downsize to another new-build in a town where there is more to do! I grew up in London, don't want to move there, but miss having lots to do and see on a regular basis. How about you? Janine X |

Janine, You've really brightened my day! Normally when I declare my love of London anywhere there is a deluge of 'are you mad??' Gill |

For now, yes we do,but in six years time, when my OH retires, instead of a village, I fancy living in a market town (not a city though!) right near the shops...so we can walk to the shops and a pub. |

I did, I do. But now getting the 7 year itch. I find it quite hard to live somewhere longer than that. I have a beautiful house, as I used to be an interior designer, and still keep my hand in now and again. But lately I have been thinking very seriously about moving again. Then I can start designing all over again....

Hi Kate1, Perhaps you would like Horsham, where I live, as it is a market town and you can walk to the shops and pubs. Janine X |

Hi Gill, I love London - it is still my 'home'. I do visit often for shopping and the theatre etc. You are certainly not 'mad' - just very lucky! And very 'cool'! ![]() Janine XXX |

Not my ideal house or ideal area, but I do love being a city girl just wish I was in another Manchester suburb not this one. Gillian I think you are in an ideal place. It's seems that we are considered a little crazy if we prefer a bustling urban existence rather than living in a rural retreat. Glad to see there are some others on here like me. I wouldn't last 5 minutes living in the countryside, I would miss so much that is on my doorstop in the city, that I would become very very unhappy. |

Downsized last year, and now in my nearly-perfect house. I love houses, and will always be on the look out for something better, but don't think I'll find it. Oddly enough, it's my first home. As a child I was shunted between parents house and granparents. Then we moved, and mother never settled. Lived in a shared flat, then moved into my ex-OH's house. Next house was his choice, nice house but never made my heart sing. Then we moved, wonderful hiuse, and we were only there a year before the tart came along and I had to downsize. Nice house, but not my first choice. Met OH, and we moved to a bigger house that was a good investment. But this house is the first one that I've ever bought because I love it and it felt like home. ..wispa |

Well firstly we downsized to pay for ED wedding and reduce mortgage, then we upsized by moving here, house was designd and built for us so much of what we wanted was included, we live in a smart area of Mauritius with loads of ambasadors etc all around so there are extra police. We are very high up so we have some good views, but it can be windy and a lot of rain, but very green and i am comfortable with the cooler weather, i would not want to live on the coast were in summer it is so hot and you need aircon all the time. I think i could say its almost ideal Stellax |

Thanks ExpatK. I know London isn't perfect but my bit is perfect enough for me . Like dizee I am a city girl. I struggle with things like more than a square metre of grass at a time! That's not to say I can't see the attraction for others. Just it's not for me. Gill

certainly do and we live in the 'burbs!!!!!!!! Arrgghhhh..how many will admit to liking that! It's the best of both worlds really...near enough to town if we need an urban fix...but we can be out in the country for a good hike in 10 minutes! Perfick!!!!!!!!!!! |

Quote: I'm with you Gill, I love London, can I stay too I grew up in central London & go back as often as I can. I live in Sussex now too, should downsize but never will, too many lovely memories - don't tell OH, he thinks we may move to France ![]() We have 180 degree sea views where we live, for me its very uplifting every day. So I guess its perfect for me, 50 mins from London too. |

Yes I love where I live, a lovely house in a village on the edge of the cotswolds, it's a sleepy village but only 10 minutes from the nearest town and within reach of half a dozen others and several lovely Cotswold villages. We moved here to cut down my OH travel time to work, we thought it would be just for while he's working, but actually I can't see us moving back to a town now. |

My house is not ideal but it is "home" So many happy memories of the children growing up I don,t know if I could ever bear to leave it.The only thing I would like to do is lift it up and put it by the seaside. |

That's funny, whitleybay, I was just wondering what to say about mine and I was going to put "Oh I do like to be beside the seaside." Now it sounds a bit smug. But I do like being near the beach. It's one of those places, though, where the tide goes out and forgets to come back in again. |
