Just want to say how angry I am at what the Scottish football fans did to our city. As an avid football fan I have seen some things over the years, but what happened last night was a disgrace. People who I know that work in the city centre tell me of shops shutting and boarding up at 10.30 in the morning because of the drinking, urinating in the streets etc. I appreciate these were the minority. There are many well behaved genuine fans I know, I am one of them, but this is the side of my favourite sport that sickens me. Rant over as I ask myself why why why??? |

I agree dizee. I am a footie fam too, but behaviour like this by a minority of idiots is shocking and disgusting. They have ruined what was a proud time for Rangers (despite losing) and they have once again highlighted the pointless thuggery that is sometimes associated with the game. I hope this isn't repeated in Moscow next week. My hubby and his friends will be there and I will be very worried if anything happens whilst they are there. |

Dizzee My OH is the football liaison police officer for Charlton FC down here in London. As such he has alot to do with intelligence on people who follow various teams and he does all the organising for policing every home match. Firstly these scum are NOT football fans. They actually plan to create as much mayhem, chaos and damage as possible and many of them do not even come to watch the game..... I am so sorry this has happened to your lovely city. They are total thugs who should not in anyway be associated with the game of football. I hope that your police up there are now pouring over CCTV footage and can bring some of these animals to justice... |

I am so sorry too for all that happened in Manchester. I hate it even more because I'm from Glasgow and I feel embarrased reading about these people's behaviour. I agree with Sally that they are not true football fans but thugs. I would like to think that they will be caught and made to take responsibility for what they did. Sorry Manchester!! |

Hi Dizee You have every right to be angry. Why does the "minority" have to spoil things for the majority? I saw BBC Breakfast News this morning, where they were reporting from central Manchester and I was shocked by the extent of the litter left behind. What an awful job for the people who are left to clear up this mess. |

My sister's granddaughter goes to uni in Manchester, and she said that the mess that was left was absolutely disgusting. What a shame that a minority spoil it for the majority, who just really enjoy the game. Plasmo x |

Dizzyblonde I'm not a fan but I can quite understand why you are so angry, so would I be. A couple of years ago we were in Belgium when Italy won something (in the world cup I think it was - told you I'm not a fan!) Anyway, this particular town has a large italian population and they had a big screen and beer tents etc in the big town square. Apart from a bit of noise and excessive italian flag waving there was no trouble at all - nothing but high spirits and even we felt all right, the only English in the thick of it all - it was great!!! ![]() Most of us can behave ourselves - why do these people always let us down. I don't like sport but I like that it makes people happy when they're allowed to be and when its not completely ruined by a bunch of idiots. Keep your chin up Dizzy - Manchester will bounce back!

I've noticed of late that these slobbs are creaping into cricket matches. Just recently at one of the grounds one of them was so drunk he fell over well he was just stepped over and him and his mates looked so pathetic. I just hope it doesn't increase with the 20-20 matches. Booze is banned on moast of the grounds, and those of the Barmy Army seem to have had their day, thank God |

I think it is so sad that this has happened, as expressed by others it is the minority and they are not fans but thugs. They should be put somewhere horrible and the key thrown away..........there is no way that they should be shown any compassion or lenency if they are caught. It really is about time the british government stopped pussyfooting around and did something to punish people for the crimes they commit. I'm sure the police must be so frustrated at their lack of powers to deal with these thugs. Can't call them animals as animals don't act like that. |

What is about football fans? We don't seem to get the same sort of trouble with rugby/cricket fans. Perhaps football attracts people of a lower I.Q?? These thugs are pond life. |

Why on earth where the screens not set up in Glasgow, it only encouraged "supporters" without tickets to go to Manchester! |
||||||||
|
|
|||||||
|
as your Chief police officer said - the fact that the 'big screen' failed to work was not a signal for everyone to go berserk. Why did thousands of people flock to the city when they knew they did not have tickets. As a rugby fan I agree with the other rugby girl - no matter what the situation or outcome of the game everyone accepts the outcome and 'shakes hands'. By the way - we here in NI are supporting Utd on the biog day. We know they can do it... Jenny

Morning dizeeblonde, Like marg444 I am Scottish and I live in the Glasgow area. I like many others am appalled and sickened by the behaviour of these Rangers fans. My son is a Rangers fan who went to Manchester for the game. He is NOT a hooligan and like the vast "majority" of fans is sicked by the behaviour of these thugs. At the moment I am ashamed and embarrassed to be Scottish and want to apologise to the people of Manchester for what has happened to their lovely city. ![]() Shanti |

Shanti, you dont have to apologise, its not your fault. Every football club has its element of thugs who really are not remotely interested in the game, just in causing trouble. What they should do (and I believe they are trying to) is to put names to the thugs and name and shame them publically. I felt sorry for the poor PC who was kicked and thumped my a party of about 40 boys AND GIRLS. This is what I cant get my head around the way that young girls are continually becoming more like out of control young lads. Plasmo x |

Thanks Plasmo...... just something I wanted to do.....dizeeb has every right to be angry. I heard on the news yesterday that the number of crimes in this country committed by young girls has risen!! I blame alcohol.........maybe another thread?? Anyway hope you all have a lovely day. I'm off to the hairdressers then catching up with an old school chum I haven't seen for more that 40 years! Shanti

All you Scottish ladies no need to apologise it is not your fault. To answer you Blossom as to why they put screens up as you felt it would encourage them. They would have come anyway and it was thought this might help with the influx of people that we were powerless to prevent entering the city. I posted because this situation was way way beyond the normal football fever getting out of hand. My son works right in the centre of Manchester and tried to go out for lunch with a black colleague. They had to return to the office as they were met with streams of racist abuse, both to my son for being English and his colleague who they screamed n****r at and proudly boasting that they don't have as many n*****s playing for them as Manchester teams !!!!, and waving sectarian flags saying they had come to trash the city as it was English The next morning the streets smelled aweful full of vomit people saying they had seen excrement in places. We have today been advised by the council that they will not be allowing screens to watch one of our own teams next week when they play in the champions league final, which has just made people here livid to say the least. |

Gosh Dizee that is just so disgusting. I echo what I said yesterday.These vermin don't come to watch the match so screens or not they would still be there. They are the complete scum of the earth and in no way should they be associated with 'the beautiful game'. |
||||||||
|
|

I don't blame you for ranting dizzy. I was really proud that the final was being held in Manchester, and at "my" stadium too(I'm a City fan). I was delighted to see the crowds enjoying themselves and felt confident that the Scots would behave, they have such a good reputation normally. I can't believe what happened and that United fans can't have the screens next Wednesday is a real shame. Not that I blame the council, it's a risk they can't take. Part of the fun of football is being part of the crowd and watching on a public screen is almost as good as being there. The only positive thing is that it WAS a minority and I will continue to believe that real Scottish fans aren't like that - I won't let the scum win and take over my favourite sport. |

Never mind what happened to Manchester - has anyone seen the footage of the 2 police officers being set upon by those animals? They are very lucky to alive. I think we should be more worried about them than the city they come from. Sorry if I sound cross but as the mother of a police officer it really annoys me when what they suffer in circumstances like this is overlooked. Buildings can be fixed but lives are more fragile. BB |
