Gel nails

I usually have my nails done at the beautician, but she's been off sick for a couple of months, and probably will be for a couple more.
For various reasons, I don't want to go anywhere else.
Has anyone tried tose DIY gel nails you cann buy in chemists and supermarkets. Not the acrylic ones (can't fave the white powder), and the gel ones look easier
