By the time I finished work 18 months ago in a senior role in a much more formal setting, I'd long replaced the shirts with t-shirts (no slogans!), but still wore smart trousers and a jacket or elegant cardi. Only secretaries still wore suits! It all depends on what is the norm in your field.
