Re: Braved Primark today. Came out with cheap & I think good b

Hi there Foxie and others who have added to this post.

To me it seems, and may be rightly so, that every time fashion and clothes prices are mentioned on these forums the thread turns to low paid workers.

I did watch a program the other day on clothes being made for pennies with interest. I recall it wasn't just places like Primark that were paying low wages but a well known mens designer etc were just as bad on NOT paying, what we in the UK and Europe, consider a decent wage.

A while back I did say on a thread over this very issue that I do worry a little and wonder what peoples wages are for making such cheap clothes
Any industry, be itthe car, clothes or computers tend to farm out work to cheaper places like India. I know as IBM, who my OH works for here in the UK, transfered some of their call centers and work load out to India a few years back. The average wage there is far below our basic one here.

To me the cost of clothes in say M&S compared to Primark is fairly big I feel. Also do M&S pay higher wages to the workers for marking them or just make more profit? Does anyone know for sure?

The world is an unfair place thats for sure.

I'm still happy with my bargains from Primark and when they do fall apart I will recycle them. I support and sometimes buy from Oxfam and other such charity shops.

Personally I try, in my own small way, to make a difference to the unfairness of this world and its uneven placement of food and wealth. But can what we do make a difference surely this is down to the big guns and world rulers and leaders of our world?
