I'd check that the pedometer is registering the steps correctly. I had one last year and found when I was walking around the house it only counted about 1 in 4 steps. It wrked better when I was outside walking on the pavement. Try counting say 50 steps and see if it's registering them. I did wonder if carpeting stopped it clicking the steps.
