Re: Dental Implants. I know....

Hi fairymary and welcome to the forum.

I can honestly say (hand on heart) that having an implant was not painful at all. And this comes from someone who takes plasters off in the bath under water, so I have a low pain threshold.

Elsie - I hope the infection clears up soon. I was given antibiotics to start on before the implant and then for a week afterwards. I also had to rinse with an antiseptic mouthwash and with salt water. The other advice I was given was to 'hold' the mouth wash in my mouth and not 'swish' it around. I was told that the first blood clot which forms is full of healing stuff and it was extremely important not to dislodge it or touch it with my tongue. The other advice was not to eat strawberries as the tiny seeds can get lodged under the stitches and would be extremely painful.

I used to eat about 3 -4 boiled sweets a day but I have gone cold turkey since my dentist explained to me that I was swilling my teeth in a sugar bath several times a day. I hold this picture in my mind and it is a good deterrent. Good luck, I hope everything goes well next time.

Take care
Foxie
