Snoopy no you are not being stupid, it is completely natural to be nervous.

I dont know about your particular condition but I had a cataract operaton about three years ago. The worries you have are exactly the same as those I had (and I expect everyone else who has this operation). It's actually one of the most common operations carried out in hospitals.

I had mine under local (eyedrop) anaesthetic and the whole thing was completed within about 15 minutes. My Consultant did warn me of the dangers (as I expect yours has too). As a consequence I followed the aftercare instructions to the letter. He stressed to me that infection is the cause of most problems and these generally occur when people either fail to use the antibiotic drops afterwards or simply fail to ensure rigourous hygiene.
