Hi Ashbee, I am really pleased to hear that you have found something to read! A friend recommended Paul Auster’s novels to me a few years ago. I checked on my book shelves and found two titles – Moon Palace and The Book of Illusions. Moon Palace is about a man’s quest for identity in the modern world. The blurb on the cover describes the novel as ‘a meditation on and re-examination of America, art and the self’ and ‘the work of an immensely gifted young novelist’. Although I thought the novel was clever, original and well written, I can’t say I enjoyed it! Then I tried The Book of Illusions which I enjoyed much more; the author’s narrative skills are brilliant. This novel is also about a quest – an obsession to unravel the mystery of the life story of a great comedian. One newspaper review suggests this novel is the best book Paul Auster has written. I recommend this title. Happy reading! |
