The exploding box sounds a lovely idea. When my father was 70, I wrote round to every member of the family I could find (He had 4 bros & sis and about 20 nephews and nieces, along with half a doizen cousins) and asked each of them to send me a photo, which I made into a special album for him - he was thrilled with it. I'm sure your F. will be delighted with his gift!
