New York with Teenage Daughter
      #118018 - 19/05/2008 22:41

Hi Everyone

Have recently come back from a long weekend with my 17 year old daughter in the Big Apple. We had a fab time, found NYC clean, safe and reasonably cheap. Hotels are very expensive and frequently do not include breakfast, but there are lots of diners around that do do cheap and nutritious breakfasts.

There ia so much to see; our top 5 were:

1. Rockerfeller Centre (better than Empire State Building, tickets can be booked online in advance from UK)

2. Museum of Modern Art (freee on Fridays from 4pm - 8pm)

3. Lower East Side Tenement museum (interactive museum = fab bookable in advance)

4. Central Park (Especially brunch in the Boat House on Sunday morning).

5. Staten Island ferry

We had a really fun time.

Hi Honeybun1

I went to NewYork a couple of years ago, it was fab, I agree the Rockerfalla centre is much better than the Empire State building. I got engaged at the top of the Empire State, but when we went to the rocckafella centre a few days later my man said that he wished that he had waited. The only one on your list we didn't get to was the tenement museum, which was a shame. I'm taking my mum there in October - don't think we'll see many of the sights, she likes to shop and makes me look like an ameture!

Sounds like you had a really good trip, glad you enjoyed yourselves.

Jennifer

I love New York too. Wonderful.

Only thing I would add to the list, the boat around Manhatten Island (Circle Line). Didn't do the full one, but around the bottom of the island but will definitely do the full one when I next go.

And yes, felt very safe walking around at any time of day/night. Police on every corner.
