tummy bloating
      #147412 - 11/07/2008 17:10

Right, iv'e had enough. I am now. I frightened to eat. I can't put my finger on what bloats me out, so i may as well starve myself. It seems the smallest amount of food starts it off. I feel so uncomfortable in my clothes after eating, i sometimes look pregnant, but when i wake up i am back to normal. I have a under active thyroid of which is under control. I never eat between meals, i am not a big eater, i have always been slim. Has anyone out there any suggestions or magic cures please. please don't say give up pasta, spuds and bread, i did that a long time ago.

Hi Green Eyes, how miserable for you. It sometimes happens to me, and it's not always gas, sometimes I think it's just slow digestion, or even fluid retention. No miracle cures but the things I find helpful are old fashioned remedies like mint tea or fennel tea, (especially the latter) and also Aloe Vera .

Is this based on the Hay diet, mjm? And if so is it something you follow? I suffer from bloating myself but when I've cosidered the Hay diet I can naver think what to eat!

Poor you, I used to have this sometimes. It could be you are taking in too much air whilst eating. either by chatting - as in my case - or you could be drinking too much - liquid of any sort - I don't mean to insinutate that you're downing pints!. I always have one mint after a meal and it helps enormously.
Good luck with the remedies.

I don't want to scare monger, but I would go and see your doctor. I had bloating for 2 yrs and had been diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), I was also getting, diarrhea, Bladder frequency, and tummy discomfort. In January 08 I saw a different doctor (by now I was looking 9 months pregnant) who sent me for an Ultra Sound, and I was found to have a Giant Ovarian Cyst,30cm (beachball size) and weighed 20lbs when removed. It was found to be borderline, and had a rare cell, I had to also have a full hysterectomy, and an omentectomy (removal of the omentum a fatty layer which protects the intestine and bowel)as it can be a cancer spreader. I am one of the lucky ones, as it's not thought to be cancerous, my lymphnodes and the omentum were clear, however, I do have to have regular checkups.I went to my doctor approx every 3-4mths complaining of bloating, and was sent away with peppermint oil tablets, and other perscription drugs. I believe because I saw the same doctor over the 2 yrs he was blinkered by the Consultants diagnosis of IBS, and therefore it is wise to see different doctors. Also if you have a ultra sound scan ask for pelvic as well as abdominal, as early ovarian cysts can be missed if only an abdominal scan is done. Don't be fobbed off. I'm happy to answer any questions.

Similarly, My OH went through the bloating thing for well over 10 years and it got progressively worse. He was diagnosed with all sorts because over the years his system took a beating. I insisted that he see a gastroenterologist who embarked on all sorts of bizarre tests....but...we have a result. Consider this if you have persistent diahhorea (sorry) and are feeling extremely tired.

I find I get bloated even noe I'm slimmer by wine! And as stated above IBS can cause it and even more worrying ovarian cancer.

If you have any doubts what so ever see your GP

Green eyes, that's dreadful - poor you! To be hungry but frightened to eat doesn't sound right at all. Can you get your appointment moved forward? Meanwhile, can you make sure you get a few calories from somewhere - some soup perhaps? I'm sure one of the more medically minded forumers would be able to give you better advice, but I don't think it's good for you to be running on empty.

It is soooooooo very distressing having this problem....but I think the replys you have had here are very very good and Im sure you will take on board and you will see your doctor.....you obviously know that you can not continue not eating at all......good luck.
