Well, thank you all for the brilliant responses to the exercise... some really interesting little stories there. Keep this up and we'll get a book published of the Woman and Home Wannabee Writers Circle!
But, I think we do need a bit of organisation here otherwise we will all be putting forward ideas, at different times.
Can we try and agree on weekly or fortnightly for a start, when it comes to the exercises? I know many of you want weekly, many want fortnightly... I think the latter is best, particularly as many of us have other things going on in our lives. I think we have agreed, sort of, that it will be on a Friday? So could we take a vote on weekly/fortnightly please?
The next thing to consider is are we all going to take turns coming up with ideas, and if so, how will that work.. alphabetically? Which means, guess what, ASHBEE might be first now!!
Although I rebel against organisation and so on, I do think it necessary if we are to make sense of it all. After all, a proper writers group does have some sort of leader.
Ideas and thoughts please ladies....

Okey dokey...I'll post the next bit of fun on Thursday night/Friday morning and we'll see what we all come up with...
I'm happy with weekly but I accept that others might have busier lives than mine...will go with the majority view as always! Never let it be said an Ashbee isn't democratic!!!

Although I don't really go for organisation either, in this case it's probably a good idea. How about fortnightly exercises. As for the ideas, we could either take it in turns to post something, as Ashbee has offered, or everyone could send various ideas to an organiser or leader who would then post them fortnightly?

If we had a nominal leader, we could PM her our ideas and she could post them at suitable intervals, as Alex suggested.
Thanks, gothfairy, for the reminder in the Your Lives section. On busy days I often don't get as far down as the Book Club.
I have to confess that I don't actually have any ideas at the moment. I'm a bit new to this.

Some questions.... Is it the intention that we each produce one exercise of for instance 100 words, every week/fortnightly? Or is it the intention like some of us did during the recent exercise, that we produce several exercises? What do we do with these exercises? Do we discuss them amongst ourselves or leave them for what they are? And thus consider them a creative brainstorm....? Weekly..... fortnightly..... whatever..... I think 100 words per week are achievable. Could I perhaps make a suggestion.... shoot me if you don't like it.... Although I like the idea of a set opening sentence/few words, I also think that a theme might be an idea. What do you think?? For instance the theme is a "teapot".... or a "ring".... or a "bouquet of flowers". Create a story around something as mundane as these examples... As I said, just an idea. Do not like organisation either, in fact rather rebel against it, but generally agree with everyone's ideas.

A theme is a good idea ... perhaps whoever sets the exercise can decide if it's an opening phrase, or a phrase or whatever else they come up with...I think the idea is just to have fun and get the creative juices flowing. Not sure I fancy critiquing (is it spelled that way?) and I want to avoid anything that might upset anyone in view of other posts in other forum areas...just my view and open to discussion, anybody?

So maybe when it's Chatelaines turn, she could suggest things on a theme since she came up with the idea. But we still don't seem to be any nearer deciding finally if it's weekly or fortnightly, but I suppose that it really doesn't matter. If you don't have time or inclination, then no pressure to join in? And as Ashbee said, it is better to just see this as a tool for our creative outlets, rather than a chance to be too critical. All right to say how much we liked or didn't like something, and possibly if any of us see something glaringly bad then in a kind and gentle way, point it out? If the idea is to help us improve, then there has to be some sort of criticism surely? But if it's just a bit of fun, then not necessary perhaps? How do you feel about grammar and spelling, are they less important than the story or does it jar with you if there are too many mistakes? And have we decided how to make this work when it comes to people's turns... alphabetically or send everything to Ashbee...?

Ashbee will be missed... without being presumptuous shall I take over, at least for a while? Just don't say yes to be placatory please.....
But if you all agree, then maybe Chatelaine could start our next exercise off on Friday morning, with one of her 'themes'? On the understanding that we don't have to join in if we don't want. The idea is to have fun with our creative side, not to feel pressure or stress about any of it.
And if anyone has an idea for the next exercise, then you can always PM me if you like and I'll keep a record of them all. Would you like to be named, or anonymous?

Thanks gothfairy, for offering to take over pro tem.
I think it might be useful if we had some "gentle" feedback. I think grammar amd spelling are quite important for a writer, although we have had some great fun in the past with typos.
On one of the earlier posts, am I right in thinking, we had some "professionls" offering help? Are they still around? I'm afraid I don't have a lot to offer here but I'm happy to join in and I especially liked the exercise where we were given the first sentence.
Ashbee, I hope all goes well, and I'll look forward to your return.

Just adding my thanks gothfairy for offering to take over.
Like Sella, I think a bit of feedback re. form/grammar, etc. would be good, even if this is meant to be fun. We can all learn something where this is concerned - as long as we don't get too serious or overly critical and enjoy what we're doing. As you said, gothfairy, if we want to improve, then some feedback is useful.
I guess we could do both themes and opening lines, with everyone submitting these to you, gothfairy and using one or the other per week (I get the impression that it'll be once a week and we can join in, or not, as time allows?). I don't mind being named re. anything I think up in the way of a theme or opening line.

Hi Gothfairy. It is a good idea for you to take over, so thanks for that. Also agree grammar and spelling are very important. I love the idea of a fortnightly exercise and am very easy going as to how that is organised. I don't mind being named for my ideas (if I get any!). I am much more intrigued by the thought of W&H doing a wannabee writer's publication, or even publish something for us collectively in the magazine? They would expect something supersonic from us for that but it would give us a real purpose.
