The West Yorkshire walking group had its first walk today - just four of us on a gentle 3+ mile walk but with aspirations to increase the pace/distance over the coming months. Super time - thanks ladies for your company. I think we all had a good time and enjoyed planning our next walk. This is set for Sunday 16th March at 12 noon. Another 'easy' walk, meeting at The Royalty Inn on Yorkgate, Otley, LS21 3DG and walking in The Chevin area, probably for around 1hr 30mins finishing with a drink in the pub when we return. It would be great to have some additional walkers with us. Any takers? Do pick up this thread and you will be assured of a very warm welcome....

Just to confirm, as one of the four , that we had a lovely day and that any new members will be very welcome. I am looking forward to discovering more of the beautiful Yorkshire countryside.

Having thoroughly enjoyed the first walk, I'm very much looking forward to the second on Sunday 16 March. For those not familiar with the area here are directions if you're approaching from the Leeds area (obviously reversed if coming from say Harrogate direction). On the main Leeds/Harrogate road A658 take the first turning left after the airport which is Otley Old Road and signposted Carlton and Chevin Country Park Hotel. Travel for 7/10ths of a mile and you will see signs for The Royalty pub which take you left on to Yorkgate. The Royalty is approximately 1 mile along this road on the left and immediately after, on the right, is Beacon House car park. Once parked, we will be meeting in front of The Royalty at approx 12.00 noon. The walk will probably take around 2 hours (or less if the weather is particularly wet) and it is mostly on the flat but can be a bit muddy in places.
Hope you can join us - everyone welcome.

Six of us enjoyed a beautiful walk round The Chevin near Otley on 16th March. Amazing how many of us are also in W&H supper clubs and participate in other online forums.
Next walk is planned for Sunday 6th April in the Shibden Valley, near Halifax. Its a lovely area - the valley walk will only take around 1.5 hours but we can also walk round Shibden Park afterwards if we feel in need of more distance. Could be muddy in parts so walking boots definitely preferable to trainers or shoes. Meet at 12 noon in Shibden Park Lower Car Park. Really easy to find, Shibden Park is located on main A58 just before Halifax (from Leeds side). Do be careful when you turn off the A58 into Shibden Park - its a sharp turn almost back on yourself. Postcode HX3 6XG should help anyone with satnav or who, like me, uses the aa routefinder. If anyone is unsure about directions, please just ask. Looking forward to seeing you on the 6th....

Hi Everyone
Our next walk is planned for Sunday 11 May. We will be taking a very easy walk along the canal path at Apperley Bridge returning along the riverside. We will be meeting at 12.00 noon in the car park of The Queens pub at Apperley Bridge and the walk will take approx 2 hrs. Apperley Bridge is on the Leeds/Bradford border on the A658 Bradford/Harrogate road. The path can sometimes be a bit muddy so you will need appropriate footwear. If anyone has a problem finding the location, please PM me and I will go into further detail.
Look forward to seeing new and old faces on Sunday. If you haven't walked with us before please don't worry about turning up alone, we will be delighted that you can join us.
