This morning I found an email from a friend..... She'd received it from an acquainted and highly qualified doctor/ homeopath, and one of the founders of the organisation trying to stop this miscarriage of "law" before it is too late for humanity.
After reading it I immediately signed the Petition, and slowly my anger started boiling over, and decided that I had to share this with you.
Hereunder you will find my translation of said email:
CODEX ALIMENTARIS
It sounds futuristic, but it will be reality: on Dec.31, 2009 a new law will be implemented, the CODEX ALIMENTARIS!
This law constitutes:
1. EVERY animal (also those from the biological sector) that will be used as food, MUST be treated with antibiotics and exotic growth hormones.
2. ALL foods and food stuffs MUST be treated with radiation.
3. All food supplements, such as vitamins and minerals will become ILLEGAL.
4. ALL alternative preparations etc will be considered to be medication, and may ONLY and SOLELY be acquired through a (normal) doctor's prescription. (can sort of live with that where it concerns the wild growth of orthomolecular stuff available on the market, and is is necessary to contain this (some)..... BUT the chemical industry once again is the winner and comes out on top!)
This new law has been set up by the WTO (World Trade Organisation), under auspices of the FAO (Food and Agricultural Organisation), and WHO (World Health Organisation), and 173 countries (including ours!) have signed for it!
In the USA an organisation has been set up, comprising lawyers and judges, who discovered that this law is wholly against the American constitution, and against the law which gives us the "right to live". This organisation is in the process of gathering thousands of signatures to stop this new law.
On a European level, the antroposophic corner, has set up a petition up with the aim to collect 1,000,000 signatures to stop this law.
Ere long the only food stuffs which will be safe and free from chemicals, etc. will be those which we grow/cultivate ourselves, or which we can gather freely out there in nature.....

PLEASE, if you care for our/your and your families and friends continued FREEDOM, to live as you wish, and eat as you wish, free from chemicals, as well as freedom in choosing the medication and type of medical help we wish, then do PLEASE, PLEASE, sign this petition.

Some of you may not be interested..... and that is your free choice...... I do so hope that many of you will see this on the greater scale of things..... for this law is ONE YEAR AND SEVEN MONTHS away from being instigated! This madness HAS to be stopped!!! For I am thinking about the further implications this law will bring.... For heavens knows what kind of chemicals they could possibly add to these food stuffs....
THIS IS AN INFRINGEMENT OF OUR FREEDOM TO LIVE HEALTHILY!! TO EAT HEALTHILY!!! There is already enough chemical rubbish in our food, without adding more!!!

Chatelaine, I cant believe I have just read the above, its really scary isnt it that the powers that be can incorporate laws without any of us really getting to know about it.
I try to eat organically if at all possible and when it isnt ridiculously priced, I buy from the source e.g. the farmer, but even then sometimes its not always as organic as you are led to believe. Thanks for bringing the email to our attention. Plasmo x

Plasmo, what I find so unsettling is that that which is still "organic" now, will no longer be organic once the powers that be get their grubby mits on it!!

OMG..What a load of Ballcocks....right thats it Im off to live on a deserted island!!!...Arghhh..Must go and have a cold shower to stop my blood boiling...It will never pass!!!!,,,they cant allow it to!!!..It wont, there will be too much of an outcry!!!

Can this be brought to the attention of the general public.?
Very quickly.
Surely there is enough media editors out there,who could jump on this,and open it all up.
As you say ONE YEAR AND SEVEN MONTHS AWAY.is not a long time.
Anyone who knows anyone and feels like we obviously do,should forward this to any contacts that they might have in the media.PRONTO!

Is this for real? Scary! I thought the bits about vitamins etc and irradiation had been discussed and dismissed a few years ago. One of our friends is a dairy farmer and has a great big notice in the parlour telling his staff what to do if milk from a cow being treated with anti-biotics accidently gets into the tank. He's certainly not aware that anything like this is going to happen.
The worldhunger website says the following under terminology:
"Codex Alimentaris. Indicative food safety standards, organized and promulgated under the auspices of the World Health Organization and Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO). National standards for WTO members are not required to conform to codex standards but should as a rule be no more restrictive or comply with certain WTO provisions."
Interestingly searching for codex alimentaris on the WTO website doesn't return anything.

I read this and decided it MUST be a joke, then I read all of your reactions and feel quite nervous that it might not be. My OH is a farmer and there are extremely strict regulations that cows treated with anti-biotics CANNOT have their milk included in the tank. It is tested EVERY time and it is discarded, ( the whole tank) if there are any traces. Are you sure this isnt a wind-up as it sounds so totally ridiculous?????

This looks like the same petition I signed last year on the counter of our local health food shop. If so this new law has been known about in the 'suplements' industry for quite some time. I too find the bit about the imposed treatment of our foods with antibiotics and hormones very worrying.(and was not included in the one I signed).Can this really be true? It sounds really 'far fetched'. I too will look into it further I think. Too late now to do the homework!

I have been laid up with flu for the past few days and only getting onto the forum tonight. Very worried about this Chatelaine and will ask my MP about this when he calls in the next few days looking for a Yes vote for our Lisbon Treaty referendum next month.
I have printed this out and will confront him with it.

I've been offline for 24hrs, and with a new Network Adaptor now, can peruse the web and get on the forum again!!
Ladies, how I wish that this was some sort of futuristic nonsense, but sadly it isn't. Several years ago, I already heard rumblings about this at the health food store I regularly frequented back in Devon.....
What appals me is that we are going to be "bombarded" with chemicals etc wholly and interely against our wishes! There is already so much rubbish (chemicals, preservatives, colorants, etc.) in our food, and trying to find something without this cr*p is getting more and more problematic!!!
Having read and reread the email I received from a friend, and then having read what ELIANT is trying to achieve, the first thing I did was "sign the petition", and then wondered whether I needed to become a 100% vegetarian, keep some hens for eggs, and grow my own veggies, herbs and fruit......
If and when necessary, I personally have an aversion to regular medication and regular doctors, but please take note, that is MY CHOICE!! And I am not forcing my choice on anyone!! But what enfuriates me about this NEW law, is that our FREEDOM of CHOICE is being taken away from us!!! Plus we will be forced to consume tampered with foods!!
This new law may have the cooperation of the FAO and the WHO, but it is clearly the WTO and the many chemical companies who are "to blame" for this potential destruction of our freedom!!
To say that I am angry about it, is an understatement!!!

Chatelaine, is this a UK law or an EU law that is proposed? It has to have gone through the mandating process so how did they keep it so quiet? Like others who have responded it is so undemocratic that the possibility that it is true beggars belief.

Gigi, Above I have quoted part of my original post - as you can read the design of this law has been set up by the WTO, under auspices of the FAO and the WHO (both FAO and WHO are part of the United Nations). And 173 countries, including the UK, the EU and the USA have signed for it.

I cannot understand this at all. We have a powerful press in this country. Why have they not got hold of it? I have never heard of Elaint or the word "antroposophic" so I have to think about this for a while. What seems to be on the agenda though is that Elaint are collecting one million signatures in order to have some kind of power within these world organisations. If I have got that wrong please correct me. If I am right then I want to know exactly who the individuals are because adding my signature on the above issues may be a way of giving them other powers and a faceless organisation is frightening. The most scare mongering paper is the Daily Mail - perhaps your post should be sent to them?
I have read recently that there is a world food shortage. Indeed, Gordon Brown said exactly that during an interview a few days ago. "World food shortage?" It seems impossible to believe when our shops are so full but there it is. Is it that organic farming cannot sustain the size of the world's population? There is more to this than I can see at the moment. Very important thread Chatelaine, thanks.
