Antioxidants are found naturally in most fruits, vegetables and many plants. Darphin Vital Protection, £44 for 50ml, contains the mountain flower Edelweiss, which withstands extreme conditions at high altitudes and so helps skin to better withstand the elements.

NV Perricone MD offers some great antioxidants, including Alpha Lipoic Acid, known as the universal antioxidant because it's 400 times more potent than vitamins E and C combined. And new this month is Perricone's Advanced Face Firming Activator, £98.99 for 59ml, an ultra-high antioxidant formula that's close to the levels Dr Perricone uses in his consultation rooms.

On top of this, try boosting the skin's defences from within with a supplement like Imedeen Time Perfection, £38.50 for 60.

Moisturisers with UV filters are now likely to contain a cocktail of antioxidants, such as ginseng, green tea and vitamin E.
