Culinary Cotwolds
Fancy a break in the UK? Try the Cotwolds and its culinary delights
There are many reasons to visit the Cotswolds, not least that it has now become a foodies' paradise. Take the farm shops, including Daylesford Organic, the brainchild of Lady Bamford. She's opened a couple in London, but this original shop and café is where locals such as Kate Winslet can be found rifling through home-produced breads, award-winning cheeses and possibly the best pork pie in all of England. There are also organic body potions and lotions, as well as a spa.
Head towards the little village of Paxford and to the Churchill Arms, where serious food is available in a non-serious setting. Chef Sonya Kidney hails from Barbados but has been cooking in these parts for years, and melds a taste of the exotic with traditional English fare. Plus, the pub has rooms, so you can stay to savour more.
Another pub with rooms that caters to gourmet tastes is the Village Pub at Barnsley, the younger sibling of Barnsley House, once the home of gardener Rosemary Verey. The great thing about all these eateries is that most of the foods are locally sourced.
