Romantic Novel Awards
Monday 4th February 2008
Freya North's Pillow Talk was today named Romantic Novel of the Year 2008 by The Romantic Novelists' Association at a lunch at the Royal Garden Hotel, London.
Pillow Talk was chosen from a shortlist of six books by a judging panel which included comedienne Helen Lederer.
Pillow Talk is the gentle story of sleepwalking jeweller Petra Flint, and insomniac musician Arlo Savidge, whose teenage love affair is reawakened when a chance encounter rekindles that early spark. The blossoming of this new, mature relationship forces them both to reassess their troubled pasts and to take an adventurous step together towards the future.
The panel of RNA members said: 'Petra is the girl we all dreamt of being and Arlo the man we all wanted to meet. Who doesn't wonder “what if …” to the long lost first love?'
The shortlisted novels were selected by a panel of RNA members, who scored the books on such criteria as romantic content, readability, dialogue, characters, plot, style and setting. RNA Chairman Catherine Jones said, 'this shortlist represents all that's finest about the wide genre that is romantic fiction.'
