The fantastic style guru, Gok Wan gives two lucky woman and home winners a makeover
Lynne Snell, 52, lives in Bristol with her husband, Nigel, 56. They have three children and run a company designing architectural metalwork.
“I love shopping, but my biggest problem is putting a look together for myself. I’ve reached an age where I feel I know what suits me, so I buy the same sorts of clothes time and time again. I shop in two-hour bursts, so I’ll often impulse buy – then come home to find I already have something similar in my wardrobe."
“When Gok showed me the pencil skirt, I said, ‘Oh my God, I can’t wear that’, but I’m so glad I did. The shoot was such an eye-opener. I never usually wear anything above the knee, because I feel too exposed, and I was stunned when I looked in the mirror. I looked years younger, and Nigel was very impressed!
Initially I thought the chiffon blouse was a bit matronly, and I avoid fussy bows or flowers, but when I put it on, I realised how feminine and girlie it made me feel, which was a nice surprise.
Another first for me was wearing false eyelashes. They created a really dramatic look. Afterwards, I washed around them and kept them on until the next day to visit my family! I also kept my chignon in, which involved sleeping virtually sitting up. Nigel thinks I should wear my hair up more often.
Overall, the shoot made me see myself in a completely different light, and next time I go shopping, I’ll certainly be more adventurous, investing in a skirt – and maybe even a new dress.”
