Sue's blog: our June cover star

Friday 9th May 2008

Our June issue has just gone on sale and I thought I'd answer a question that I am so often asked - How do you decide on who goes in the cover?

Well there is loads of discussion both with my team (women like you), plus agents, publicists and PRs. I spend time a lot of time listening to readers, friends and women that I meet to see what interests them, their likes and dislikes and what they enjoy.

I call it wearing my editorial antenna. My husband says I have it on permanently! It's really vital when you are editing such a big, important magazine like Woman&Home. It's essential that we pick up what women are thinking almost before they've thought it!

It's key that, in every issue, we have a mix of real women like you and key experts, alongside the famous.

So how do we choose the star on the front...?

Well they have to be fabulously flawed in some way, just like you and I, not 100% perfect. Our June cover star, Amanda Holden isn't perfect, she has made mistakes and talks about these and her life in our interview.

I found her very easy to get on with. She didn't just want to talk about her career or being on the hit TV show, Britain's Got Talent. She was honest, particularly when she talked about the flood of criticism that she received over her affair with Neil Morrissey and the break up of her marriage to Les Dennis. It still hangs over her today even though both of them have moved on and are extremely happy in their new relationships. I found Amanda refreshing, fun and down to earth when I met her.

Read out interview in this month's issue and you'll found out why...

Have a good weekend

Sue
