Sue's blog: Pat Lampard
Friday 25th April 2008
I was deeply saddened and shocked to hear about the death of Pat Lampard, mother of Chelsea footballing star, Frank.
I know Pat really liked woman&home because she agreed to be featured in our July 2006 issue. I was thrilled that she chose us.
We had to photograph her and her son, Frank during the lead-up to the World Cup. You can imagine how busy they must have been, but when Frank got a call from his mum, he managed to find time to join her on our shoot. For me, that demonstrates their very special mother and son bond.
Pat came across as a very gentle, stylish, caring woman. Above everything, she loved being a mum. She was so very proud of all her children, not only her famous footballing son Frank Jnr.
Football had always been a big part of her life. She was married to Frank Lampard Senior who played for West Ham and England. Her sister married Harry RedKnapp (manager of Portsmouth). And of course her son Frank Lampard Jnr is one of today's footballing stars. So it made us smile when she still didn't understand the offside rule!
What she did know was how to be a fantastic mum.
She said, "There's a pride I feel as Frank's mum that means more than football success. Pride that he is a decent human being."
Our sincerest condolences go out to Frank, his father, sisters and to their immediate family and friends....
