Travel: Derbyshire
Check in The Duchess of Devonshire's style input shows in seven bedrooms, where comfort – good, soft beds and fluffy towels – is key. Downstairs, all is snug, with vibrant wallpaper in the dining room (we love the table legs made from vintage sewing machines) and a warm, local vibe, so you'll feel part of the scenery.
The main event Make your essential walk the recently reopened Monsal Trail. It's a very manageable eight-and-a-half-mile yomp that runs from Bakewell to just south of Buxton, and has fabulous Derbyshire Dales views that haven't been seen for 40 years.
Chic eats Dive into earthy retro dishes, such as minted lamb hotpot with rosemary dumplings, and jam sponge with lashings of creamy custard. Don't forget to stock up on delicious goodies at the nearby Chatsworth farm shop too – you'll arrive home laden with tangy relishes, just-laid eggs and dressed pheasants.
What it costs From £79 B&B for a small double (perfect for single use). See devonshirepilsley.co.uk
