Ribbon Walk forum
Lynne Currie, 52, did the 20-mile walk at Blenheim with friends she'd met on the w&h Forum. She's married with two children and lives in Trowbridge, Wiltshire.
"I've been using the woman and home Forums since signing up for the Breast Cancer Care Ribbon Walk at the start of the year, and I've made so many new friends.
I wanted to do a Ribbon Walk after I saw the details in woman and home, so logged on to find out more. I'd asked friends and family if they wanted to join me but 20 miles was too far for them, and I didn't want to go on my own. w&h suggested using the Forums as a way of meeting fellow walkers.
I registered, and was pleased to see postings from two other women who were looking for people to walk with. Julia (pictured, above middle), a regular Ribbon Walker, was reassuring, telling me what to expect and sharing her enthusiasm. We agreed to walk together. On the day, it was good to put a face to the name, and it was great to have someone to walk with.
I was keen to do some training before the big day. I planned a 13-mile route in my area, posted the details online, and had a response from a woman called Lorna, who wasn't even doing the Ribbon Walk! The two of us clicked instantly. We've gone on to become close friends, and we even go to the same woman and home Supper Club, which I joined on Lorna's recommendation.
I signed up originally to raise money for a good cause - I made over £400 - but I ended up finding a new friend for life, and that was an unexpected bonus!"
