Find out how the woman and home forums can support you

June Carle lives in North Tyneside with her husband John. She has two grown-up children.

"I first logged on to the Woman and Home Forum six months ago, after my daughter Julie suggested I give it a go to help me cope with the multiple bereavements I’d suffered. In the 18 months before I joined, my oldest sister died from lung cancer, followed by my mum. Then, my brother died from a degenerative muscle disease, followed by my other sister, also from lung cancer.

"Losing them all in such a close space of time was like an earthquake in my life. I felt so alone. My children had never experienced a death in the family before, and they didn’t know what to say to make me feel better. My husband John was my rock, but I made the mistake of thinking it’d be easier not to talk about things."

How the Forum helped me
"Julie thought the Woman and Home Forum would be great for me to chat to new people online about what had happened. I wasn’t sure at first, and when I first logged on, I just sat reading all the replies to people who had asked for help. I was struck by the friendliness of these women who hadn’t even met each other. So I signed up and started to post and eventually, on a day when I was feeling particularly bad, I put a post on telling everyone what I had been through and how much I missed my family.

"Almost immediately, women from all over the world were posting back, saying they knew how I felt, and that they had been through something similar. To write what I was feeling, and to find out there were other people going through the same thing lifted the black cloud that had been following me around for months.

"I started to feel so much better. I’ve built up a network of like-minded friends, who really support me, and John says I’m like a different person since joining the Forum. I’ve met up with some of the other ladies, and understand how crucial it is to give and receive emotional support."

The Forum has changed my life
"The Woman and Home Forum has been a real life-saver. Nothing is ever too much trouble for the women on it - you can even post in the middle of the night and someone will always answer. It’s like having your best friend living next door."
