Make yourself some me time
Liz Tucker's quick-fix tips to making me time easy.
Life has speeded up so much that I can’t find the time to get everything done. I seem to be racing through each day and even have to schedule time to make a phone call.
LIZ: There is almost too much choice these days. We can have fabulous careers, live anywhere, but many of us have over-embraced this modern phenomenon. Women are natural multi-taskers, but just because we can do everything all at once doesn’t mean we have to.
Being very busy has become an aspiration, so we think we must have full diaries and behave like headless chickens to avoid disdain. Most of us feel guilty about even thinking of having time out. We all have essential time demands, such as earning a living, but be aware that it is hard to enjoy the remaining time if you are constantly under pressure. Cut down on commitments and leave spaces in your diary; focus on a few things for maximum satisfaction. Learn to love your own company, rather than filling time to avoid it.
Me time tips
1 Create memory moments
When good things happen, stop and absorb the feeling, where you were, how it looked, what you heard and store the time in your memory bank. These memories will make any day seem happier and longer.
2 Make time your own
Control your time, don’t let others run it for you. Set your own agenda and tell everyone else when you intend to do things, so no one feels neglected.
3 Learn to relax
Change your view on wasted time – never feel guilty about taking time out to enjoy or relax. In the grand scheme of things, this is time well spent.
