Breast Cancer Care
Since 2005 woman and home readers have achieved a bigger fundraising feat than the readers of any other magazine – ever. Together they have raised more than £3.5 million for a charity through their enthusiastic efforts.
Breast Cancer Care is the charity, a cause dear to so many women's hearts. It offers advice, information and support services to people affected by breast cancer, their families and friends. And with 46,000 new cases of breast cancer diagnosed in the UK every year – a number that's rising - it's a charity whose services are in huge demand.
Every summer, in May and June, the Ribbon Walk is the focus of w&h readers’ fundraising activities. These are a series of 10- and 20-mile walks through beautiful and challenging countryside, starting and finishing in some of the UK's most magnificent stately homes. Hundreds of women come to each of the walks for fun, camaraderie, a sense of achievement and, most importantly, to raise money.

In 2009, readers are out to beat that target with four Ribbon Walks set to take place: Blenheim Palace & Cotwolds Ribbon Walk, Saturday 30 May; Scone Palace & Perthshire Ribbon Walk, Saturday 13 June; Harewood House & West Yorkshire Ribbon Walk, Saturday 20 June; and Petworth House & South Downs Ribbon Walk, Saturday 27 June. Other fundraising activities for Breast Cancer Care supported by readers over the years include fashion shows, carol concerts, purchasing Christmas cards and occasional treks. In autumn 2008, 38 readers travelled to South Africa for the trek of a lifetime, raising thousands of pounds in the process.
