DVD: The Damned United

You don't have to be a football fan to appreciate this account of Brian Clough's doomed 44-day stint as manager of Leeds United.

After taking on the team on the back of one of their most successful periods, Brian Clough's hostile manner doesn't win him many fans. Not only is he a fierce critic of the team's performance on the pitch; he's also negative towards their former manager, Don Revie, a man who they all love.

But a series of flashbacks and glimpses of Brian Clough's earlier career help to explain the harshness of his behaviour and explain how he got to where he is today.

Based on the bestselling novel by David Peace, The Damned United, is a tale of drama, action and raw emotion that is beyond your normal sport tribute showcase. Michael Sheen (The Deal, The Queen) is impressive in his role as Clough and with names like Timothy Spall (Harry Potter), and Jim Broadbent (Harry Potter, The Young Victoria), also appearing, audiences can rest assured they're in for first-class entertainment.

Out on DVD 31st August.
