Mole and skin tag FAQ’s
What actually causes these ‘lumps’
A mole is a proliferation of cells in the lower layers of the skin. Some are dark because they come from the layer which makes pigment, while others have no colour. Often they start out as something quite minimal in childhood then they become larger, later.
I hate needles – do I have to have an anaesthetic?
The needle used to inject the area close to the mole is super fine – much finer than a regular needle which helps keeps the sensation to a minimum.
I’ve heard that skin is burned after removal – doesn’t that hurt?
There's no burning, it's a more complex process using high frequency current. The small wound is sealed with high frequency current which literally takes a couple of seconds. You may hear a little zap but you won’t feel it thanks to the anaesthetic.
How soon can I wear make-up?
You can wear make-up as soon as the skin is dry without any rawness. Moist healing is best for moles so apply a small slick of Vaseline every morning. In about 5-7 days it should be healed.
Will it come back?
In some cases it can make a re-appearance but generally no. This is where being older is a plus point – the older you are the slower they grow!
What happens if the mole I want to have removed is a health risk?
You’ll be referred back to your GP for treatment.
