Long-lasting foundation
Fresh skin for hours on end
First of all, it’s important to ensure that your skin care is up to date; that way, make-up stays looking fresh and bright.
“It’s all about getting the skin looking like real skin even with make-up on,” says Paul Herrington for Bobbi Brown. “Women often go far too heavy with their base, making anything else on top just look artificial. Focus on getting the right skin tone and the right texture of your foundation to suit your skin type.”
Long-lasting make-up - it's all in the application
Make-up artist Karen Mason recommends Shu Uemura’s pinky, light-reflective Under Base Cream, £26, over moisturiser and under foundation, which makes any make-up on top last much longer, without appearing all caked and powdery.
“As we get older it’s important to have a sheerer foundation so make-up doesn’t look clogged, especially in daylight,” she says. “But often these don’t stay on for long, especially around the nose. A primer evens and perfects and becomes essential.”

Top tip:
Always use a powder to set the foundation But only apply to areas that need covering for longer – such as T-zone, blemishes or redness. Otherwise keep skin free from powder to keep it looking fresher. Take a powder compact with you to do touch-ups throughout the day – we like Estée Lauder Translucent Lucidity Pressed Face Powder, £23.49.
