Think yourself slim: exercise

  • Lynn Cardy

Motivating yourself to exercise regularly can help you lose weight

Those of us who aren't exercise lovers can make the move from idle to energetic with a switch of mindset.

Researchers at Harvard discovered that simply by telling half a group of 80 chambermaids that their strenuous work was actually good for them, it resulted in an average 2lb weight loss each and lowered their blood pressure by 10 per cent, while the other half who weren't in on the secret showed no changes. We can make the same theory work for us.

What's the trick? Pete Cohen feels we shouldn't fret about finding the time or making the effort, or we'll just give up.

"Focus on the gain, not the pain and ask yourself, ‘What's in it for me?'" says Pete. "Imagine how good you're going to feel when you've finished. You'll have burned a good few calories, your metabolism will be humming and those feel-good hormones will be racing around your body." By switching the idea from "it's a drag" to "it's exciting", you're in the race!

Take a look at Pete Cohen's fab online weight-loss programme, and finally ditch those bad eating habits! petecohen.tv.
