EVENT: Dave’s Leicester Comedy Festival

  • Lucy Kingett

Because laughter is good for the soul

Dave's Leicester Comedy Festival started in 1994 with a modest audience of 5000, but with Matt Lucas and Harry Hill topping the bill it was obvious they were off to a good start.

Since then the festival has grown into a 17-day comedy and entertainment extravaganza, packing out venues and providing eager punters with brilliant, big-name acts. This year's selection includes Sarah Millican, Greg Davies, and Chris Addison.

The festival takes over the whole city, with performances spreading out onto the streets and even into restaurants and bars - head to one of Leicester's best-loved Indian eateries, Dave's Curry House, on Friday and Saturday nights to see stand-up from as little as £5.

With film, poetry, exhibitions and children's shows also on offer, and with the proceeds of some of the events going to charity, it will be a fun-filled long weekend.

Runs at venues throughout the city to 19 February, comedy-festival.co.uk
