Our woman&home astrologer Penny Thornton makes her horoscope predictions for the rest of 2009. Find out what's in store for you, Cancer

General
You may have seen part of your life map change this year and the second half of 2009 continues the trend for life-altering events, especially if you are a June Crab. Three eclipses (7th and 22nd July and 31st December) cast an aura of destiny over your affairs, whether you are completing plans already in the pipeline or dealing with out of the blue developments. Other people are the agents of change – in some cases helping you up the ladder of success, and in others, causing you to radically re-think your future without them. The happiest times will be spent close to home, and to this end there could be family gatherings and home improvements to look forward to. Saturn's arrival at the base of your solar chart (28th October) starts a two-year period in which you'll put down new roots and bid goodbye to some old stand-bys. You'll make the best of your stars by being pro-active: don't wait for others to invite you to do something you want to do, take the initiative. Live dangerously – it could become a habit!

Love

There's no sign more sensitive than you, and no sign more concerned with protecting its heart from hurt yet in order to have the emotional and sexual reciprocity you thrive on you have to be prepared to take a risk. And thanks to Pluto's presence in the relationship zone, you won't have much choice in the matter – compelling attractions and all-or-nothing decisions are on the menu. (Late June and early and late August put Pluto centre stage of your life, so expect to be shaken and stirred then.) The eclipses of July end and begin a relationship cycle, and with loving Venus in your sign for much of August your stars will not be the cause of a non-happening love life, and there will be many Cancerian marriages and engagements at this time. And if you're happily entwined already these next six months give you cause to reinvent some aspects of your relationship. It's a case, really, of grow or bust.

Work and money
These maybe worrying times but never forget you are a Cardinal sign, and the Cardinals are go-getters. Now is the time to acquire extra skills and qualifications and buy into a falling market, whether for property, stocks and shares or business opportunities. From late August through September you have Mars stirring your ambitions and making you a force to be reckoned with: unexpected openings – unexpected events in general – should be seen as pathways to wealth and success. Some Cancerians will come into money, either through inheritance, a lawsuit or a redundancy settlement, while others will benefit from a partner's good fortune. The summer maybe a season most people put career and the material world on hold but not you – there are gains to be made and building blocks to lay down. As for the autumn and early winter the work area of your chart is unsettled but you will ride through any storms.
